Dhar
 
The district extends over three physiographic divisions. They are the Malwa in the north, the Vindhyachal range in central zone and the Narmada valley along the southern boundary. Historically and culturally, Dhar District has occupied an important place through its epoch-ancient, mediaeval and modern. Dhar, known as Dhar Nagari in ancient period and Piran Dhar in mediaeval period, has had the privilege of being of the capital city, both in the ancient and in the early mediaeval periods. The majority of the population in Dhar District belongs to the Scheduled Tribes. The main tribes in the District are Bhils and Bhilalas.

RDEC and SRTSC Role

RURAL DEVELOPMENT ENTERPRISE CENTRE

INFRASTRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS

The Rural Development of Enterprise Centre is set up by NIFT at the cluster Dhar (MP). It is working as the bridge between the Design Studio and SRTSC’s of different sub-clusters. NIFT has provided the centre with all kind of technical support systems and equipments such as computers, printers and scanner which will help in technical up gradation and development programs. Sewing machines (Lockstitch), Dress forms and pattern-cutting tables have been transported from NIFT (Delhi Centre) to RDEC to provide proper infrastructure for the centre. Planning is going on to provide the centre with yarn testing equipment such as cork metre, yarntester etc.
Cluster Manager with the aid of assistants is currently running the centre. The RDEC is situated within the compound of Zilla Panchayat office in Dhar (MP).

Training and workshop are currently being held at RDEC Dhar on pattern making and stitching for the artisans. 25 artisans are being trained through this workshop.

SHARED RESOURCES AND TECHNOLOGY SUPPORT CENTER (SRTSC)

There are three SRTSC centres each at Bagh, Maheshwar and Jhabua: -
SRTSC in Bagh:
- The SRTSC is building is already been selected and renovation work is in progress. This centre will act as a facility centre to the Bagh artisans in sub-cluster Bagh. Workshops and training programs will be organized in this shelter for the artisans. For proper input of technical knowledge, NIFT has sent the stitching machines, pattern-cutting tables and mannequins. Equipments like computers will be added soon which will help the artisans to up-grade themselves in latest designs and know how.

SRTSC in Maheshwar: - It is centrally located in the compound of janpad of Maheshwar of Khargaon district. The renovation work in SRTSC building in Maheshwar is completed. The building is now been equipped by stitching machines, pattern-cutting tables and mannequins which were sent by NIFT (Delhi Centre). Computers and sitting arrangements is now being done by the state government. Decision on placement of handlooms is going on as it will be easier to train the artisans.
Craft supported: - Maheshwari silk weaving

Training and workshop is currently being held at Maheshwar on design development and skill up gradation. 40 artisans are being trained through this workshop.

SRTSC in Jhabua: The building is already handed over to NIFT by Jhabua Zilla Panchayat. The building is situated near the compound of Jhabua Zilla Panchayat. Now it is under renovation work. All the equipments like Stitching machines, Pattern-cutting tables and mannequins have been sent from NIFT (Delhi Center) to SRTSC. This will facilitate the workshop and training programs for the artisans of Jhabua. Equipments like computers, sitting chairs and tables will be purchased locally.
